First time? No problem!
Here are a few things you might like to know…
-
Dress in
something comfortable and forgiving.
Jeans and socks can make poses more challenging because they cause
sliding and resistance.
-
You may
want water and a hand towel in case you work up a sweat.
-
A yoga class is often a series of poses or
postures that an instructor will lead you in and out of. If you ever have questions or something doesn’t
feel right let the teacher know.
-
Let your yoga instructor know of any injuries or
physical limitations before class.
-
The final pose in a yoga class is a resting pose
called savasana (sha vah sah na). In this pose students will rest on their
backs with their eyes closed in order to absorb all the poses done before it. This resting pose is usually 5-10 minutes.
-
After a teacher says their closing at the end of
class they will often say “Namaste” pronounced nah-mah-stay. If you wish you acknowledge the unity of the
practice you may repeat it back.
Nothing too scary right?
Hope to see you there!
