Bandhas


A term used in yoga is bandhas (bond-ahs).  This refers to series of internal "gates" that help the flow of prana through the body.  There are three main bandhas - the uddiyana bandha(oo-dee-ah-nah), mula-bandha (moo-lah) and jalandhara bandha.  By engaging these bandhas or "closing the gates" are we keeping the prana within our bodies and increasing their flow through its channels.  Ok, it may sound a little wonky but if nothing else, finding and using these bandhas can help us with our balance, strength and focus.  Try them out in class tonight at Happy Hour Yoga.
