First Chakra
The first chakra is all about grounding. It brings us in touch with the earth, our
flesh, legs and feet. It serves as the
foundation of the entire chakra system.
The first chakra is the root system of our tree of life and existence.
The root chakra represents how a person will interact with
their physical body. It corresponds to
survival instinct, health and simple will to live.
If the first chakra is weak we will feel fear and anxiety to
many of the challenges of life. A person
with a weak first chakra may be underweight, resistant to controlled structure
and restless.
If a person has an excess in the root chakra there may be
resistance to change, excess body weight, overspending and sluggishness.
To increase the effectiveness of the first chakra a person
could eat organic proteins such as nuts, meats and cheese. They should engage in activities such as
hiking, gardening, yoga, pottery – thoughtful activities in nature that draw
attention to the body- help to ground.
Some yoga poses to strengthen the root chakra include mountain pose,
chair pose, boat pose and knee to chest pose.
If the root chakra is in excess
the intake of high protein foods should be minimized and activities including flow
yoga, walking and biking should be increased.
